Corruptions & Questions in the Church
Pastor Lee takes us through an
extensive study of the Apostle Paul's first letter to the church
at Corinth.
Intro: We will talk about
Corinth and how, as a city and culture it is not that dissimilar
to ours. We will also talk about how the call on the church at
Corinth is the same call that is on us. Grace and Gifts:
Because of God's grace He has blessed us in many ways, including
spiritual gifts. Leaders?: Sometimes we can get
so enamored with a leader, that we forget who we are following.
Foolishness: If you REALLY think about it, the message
of the DBR is fantastic, it is incredible, it is, even
implausible for many. For many the cross is a crazy idea.
Paradox: God will accomplish
His will by using those that would frequently get passed by in
the world. Spiritual Wisdom: We may say we
believe that God's wisdom is greater than our weakness, but do
we trust God to use us anyway? Floundering: The
"celebrity" of leadership can take our focus off Christ. Spiritual Building:
We must be careful what we or anyone else builds on the
foundation of Christ. True Servants:
As we serve God, He
puts great trust in us. He also expects us to be faithful to
that trust. Our job is to be faithful to Him and not worry what
others think. Sexual Immorality: Sexual immorality
is not to be tolerated in the church. We are to make a biblical
judgment about it and discipline the offender. Lordship:
Instead of applying
biblical judgment to disputes between Christians; we wrong one
another in front of the world and act as wickedly as those who
do not know Christ. Marriage Advice: Married people
should meet one another's needs and stay married. Those who are
unmarried should consider staying unmarried if they can control
their physical desires. Marriage Advice (Part 2): Balancing marriage
and a vibrant faith; it's easier said than done for most
couples. Knowledge: It is one thing to
have spiritual knowledge. It is another thing to apply it to our
own lives and within relationships. Freedom: If the exercise of our "rights"
might in any way negatively affect someone weaker in the faith,
we should be willing to give up our rights so as not to harm
their faith. Unfaithful: God will come
alongside us and help us, but let us be careful that we don't
get too prideful in our faith, thinking we have "arrived."
Order: God has established principles of order
and propriety in the church. Lord's Supper: Is
the Lord's Supper merely a memorial or is it something more
significant? Whether it is or isn't, we are certainly to
approach it with the reverence it deserves. Spiritual
Gifts: This message talks about the person and work of
the Holy Spirit (as part of the trinity) and how the Spirit
determines what gifts are to be given. The Human Body:
The body of Christ is much like the human body. Each part has a
unique function and each part is to work in harmony with each
other part. Love: It is so easy for us to get
off track on what is important. The greatest gift is that
attribute that most defines God . . . love! Build Up:
Use your knowledge of the Word and
your love of Jesus to attract others to the Word and to Him.
Order and Peace: Paul's theme is . . . build up
the church. Conduct your meetings in a fitting and orderly way.
The Gospel: What is the gospel? Although it is
a very deep, theological teaching with many aspects, it is a
very simple message. But a hard message for many to accept.
Christ's Resurrection: If Jesus did not rise
from the dead our faith is futile. Many people over the
centuries have tried to disprove the resurrection because it is
the linchpin of the Christian faith. Effects:
This resurrection of Jesus, which has already happened should
absolutely impact our lives today, but it also guarantees events
in the future. Body, Part 1: Have you ever
really wondered what happens to our body at resurrection?
Body, Part 2:
Do we have a physical body or are we
“ghostly?” I am very afraid of death, is there anything that can
take my fear away? Giving: How are we to give?
What are the principles? Final Comments: How do
I know what God wants? There are some really important elements
that go into understanding what God may want from us in certain
situations.
