Measure of Truth
Americans unanimously denounced the
September 11th terrorist attacks as a textbook example of evil,
suggesting that there is a foundational belief in an absolute
standard of right and wrong. Subsequent research, however, has
show that in the aftermath of the attacks, a minority of
Americans believe in the existence of absolute moral truth.
This is our
world. Truth has been replaced with preference. There is no
longer, as Francis Schaeffer said, "true truth." There is just
what is "true" for you and what is "true" for me. God help us!
The death of truth, or the birth of relativism lies in an absurd
statement. "There is no truth." This is what is known as a
self-contradicting statement. If there is no truth, then the
statement itself is false. End of discussion.
